Shana Sweitzer: 

CSRT Program Director and U-16/14 Competition Team Coach

Shana was hired as the Program Director in the Spring of 2012. Previously she was the Head J3 Coach at CSRT. Shana raced on the US Ski Team from 1993-1998. After retiring she attended college at was named first Team All-American while skiing for Whitman College. After college she coached throughout the Pacific Northwest and Inter Mountain Ski Divisions, with coaching positions at Mt.Bachelor Ski Education Foundation, Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, Bluewood and Rocky Mt.College. When not keeping track of 80 kids she races, gardens and windsurfs. 

Chelsea Laswell

Head Junior Coach

Chelsea started working with CSRT in 2010 as an assistant coach. In the spring of 2012 she was hired to bring her modern technique and endless enthusiasm to the Head Junior Coach position. Chelsea grew up racing for the Park City Ski Team, where she competed at the national and international level. In 2006, Chelsea was recruited to race for the University of Utah and she spent 4 years racing NCAA Division I. After graduating from college, Chelsea moved to Hood River Oregon where she now spends time doing her favorite things, like riding her bike, running, painting, cooking and of course, SKIING! Chelsea also likes to spend her time thinking of ways to torture her athletes with endless drills, bottle caps and destroyers. What will she come up with next? The possibilities are endless

Mani Morrell

Assistant Competition/Training Team Coach

Mani Morrell, also know to CSRT athletes and coaches as “Monte”  is new to Cooper Spur Race team and Mt. Hood. Monte grew up racing in the Pacific Northwest for White Pass Ski Club who is a Level 200 USSA certivied and has spent the last five coaching U14 and U16 age groups for White Pass Ski Club.  If he isn’t coaching he’s earning his forestry degree, hitting the gym, reeling in a fish, or fighting wildfires throughout the West. 

Stephan Tobler

Assistant Competition/Training Team Coach

Stephan is a Level 200 USSA coach who grew up skiing the big mountains of UT while racing at the USSA and college level. He has been bringing his love of skiing and racing to CSRT for the last 5 years and previously coached at  the Jackson Hole Ski Education Foundation for 14 years. The element of coaching he enjoys most  is powder days with the kids, especially when the kids laugh and giggle as they try to one-up each other without the clock or a course as the objective. When he is not on the hill he teaches at the  University of Utah’s Graduate School of Architecture or assists clients to realize their objectives for the built environment.  

Karen McCadam

Development Team Coach

Karen is a Level 300 USSA Certified Coach and Level 300 PSIA Instructor. She has been with CSRT for the last seven years as CSRT”s Program Director and Head J3 Coach. Last year she decided to take a step back from her leadership role and focus on other endeavors but is continuing to share her love of sport and extensive knowledge to some of CSRT’s youngest members. When Karen is not a ski coach she is coaching at Hood River Crossfit and kicking everyone’s butt at pull-ups. 

Heather Brooks

Development Team Coach

Heather grew up racing in Idaho for 49 Decgree North Ski Team  and Schweitzer Alpine Racing School. After graduating from high school she moved east and coached for the Mt. Baker Ski Team for 4 years, Meadows Race Team for 2 years and then was named  U16 Head Coach for the Schweitzer Alpine Racing Team for the past two years. Heather is now back in Hood River working towards a Physical Therapy degree and is very excited for the winter. When she is not coaching or going to school she is kayaking, biking, fishing and hiking.  

Holly Tencer

Development Team Coach

Holly originally hails from Montreal, Quebec but grew up skiing in the Seattle area at Snoqualamie Pass at Alpental and Ski Acres. This is Holly’s fourth season coaching with CSRT but she  has been teaching skiing for over 20 years and is Level III Alpine PSIA instructor, Children’s specialist 1 & 2 (PSIA),and a  Freestyle accreditation PSIA, instructor. When she is not skiing she is out on the water kiting, windsurfing, or making sure the Gorges’s female water-sport enthusiasts are looking fashionable in all their active pursuits. 

Derek Roy

Head FreeStyle/FreeRide Coach

Derek is a native Oregonian hailing from the slopes of Mt Bachelor. Since 2008, his only focus in the winter has been pursuing his passion of freestyle and freeride skiing. On top of years of competing in USASA and local NW rail competitions, he was formerly the Head Freestyle Coach for Sandy High School. He maintains sponsorships with RAMP skis, Flylow gear, and Blackstrap Inc.
In the off-season, Derek is the Trip Leader for 5-day expedition raft trips on the Snake River in Hells Canyon through local rafting outfit Zoller’s Outdoor Odysseys. He also enjoys fishing, kayaking, backpacking, surfing, long walks on the beach, and the color purple; however, his greatest love is skiing, and he is ecstatic for to pass his knowledge on! 

Naish Ulmer

Assistant FreeStyle/FreeRide Coach

Naish hails from Park City Utah. He has been skiing and rocking the freestyle scene for the last 15 years. Naish is a two time X-Game competitor and was the 2006 Junior Half-Pipe/Slope Style Champion. After a injury in 2007 he decided to take some time off competing and try different sports; one of which was  Mt.Biking. In 2010 he went pro and raced at the World Championship level as a KHS Team Rider. Naish brings endless enthusiasm to CSRT new FreeStyle/FreeRide program; he is really excited to share his love of skiing and “style” with the kids.
